HOW TO HANDLE OUR ENEMIES
My favorite president is Abraham Lincoln who was known for his kindness to everyone. He was often criticized by his associates for being so gracious.

On one occasion one of them said, “With all of the power that you have, why don’t you just destroy your enemies?” Lincoln replied, “Am I not destroying my enemies when I make them my friends?”

Isn’t that beautiful? The president was really living out the teaching of Jesus who told us the very same thing when He said, “Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.” (Matthew 5:44)

Yes that is the perfect thing to do, especially as we come into the Christmas Season. I vote for it. But then comes the problem, how do I put it into practice? I don’t want to forgive, and I just can’t bring myself to do it.

That is where Jesus comes in. We do not have the strength to forgive until we come to Jesus and are forgiven our sins—then we can forgive because we have been forgiven.
