When Caesar crossed the English Channel from Gaul, he knew that the odds were against his winning the battle. As he faced the dire facts, he did a very strange thing. As soon as his men disembarked, he commanded all of them to move some distance from the shore, then he instructed a group of his men to set fire to the entire fleet. His army was stunned, but got the message; there would be no turning back. You know what? That ought to be the position of every one of us who are in the Lord’s service. No turning back. Jesus was telling us the very same thing when He declared, “No man having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” (Luke 6:32). We are in a battle with the enemy of our soul; we will never give up until the victory is ours. With God there is no turning back, only a certain victory. So burn the bridges, and never look back!
