Pictures of the Bible

Bible Study

Dear fellow worker of the Christian Worship Hour:

The Bible comes as a revelation from God. So God tells us that He sent His Word through “holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.” (II Peter 1:21).

From the writings of Pastor Salem:

God likens His Word to five different objects:

v GOD LIKENS HIS WORD TO A HAMMER. God told Jeremiah that His Word, the Bible, is “like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces.” (Jeremiah 23:29). This shows the mighty power of God’s Word, so powerful that many a heart has been broken down, and in their crushing, called upon the Name of the Lord for salvation. (Acts 2:21). But I have to admit, I marvel at some of these old sinners who take a hammering from God, and still never repent. To them, I want to say, God will pound just so long---then comes the judgment. (Proverbs 29:1).

v GOD LIKENS HIS WORD TO A SWORD. God tells us that His Word is sharper than a two-edged sword and that it pierces to the dividing of spirit and soul. (Hebrews 4:12, 13). The reason God pierces us is to reveal the sin in our heart and the need for cleansing. No one comes to Jesus until and unless they see their awful sinfulness and come to Him for salvation. When God pierced the heart of Zacchaeus, he confessed his sins to Jesus and paid back all the people he had cheated! (Luke 19:8). That is why, sometimes when we read the Bible, we are pricked to the heart and do repentance.

v GOD LIKENS HIS WORD TO A MIRROR. When we look into the Bible, it is like looking into a mirror, and then cleaning ourselves up. James tells about two men, both look, but only one acts. One man looks, then goes on his merry way----unshaven, hair uncombed, body odor, and all the rest. The other man looks, then shaves, combs his hair, and puts Right Guard Deodorant under his left arm! (James 1:23-25). What good does it do if we look into a mirror and then do nothing about it? It is like reading the Bible and then not changing our ways to be more like Jesus. (Matthew 5:16).

v GOD LIKENS HIS WORD TO A LAMP. The Psalmist had it just right, “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” (Psalms 119:105). This world is a very dark place, and unless we have someone to light the way, we are going to land in a deep ditch. God knew that, so He gave us the Bible, the Word of God, to lighten our way. That is why I am so thrilled; the Christian Worship Hour is sending the Light of God’s Word all over the world via television our website (CWH.org), several podcast platforms! I often wonder how many we have shown the way because we brought to them, in their darkness and night, the Light of the Word---Jesus, and the Lamp that never goes out---the Bible. (John 8:12, Isaiah 9:2).

v GOD LIKENS HIS WORD TO A BALM. God inquired, “Is there no balm in Gilead?” (Jeremiah 8:22). God was referring to a little shrub that grew in Gilead, and from whence they made a balm for healing. You can just see God asking Jeremiah, the Word of God is the healing balm, why do the people not know about it? (Romans 10:15). So it is with the Bible-----it heals and comforts us in our sorrows. But what about the multitudes who do not know the Bible? Perhaps we have not told them, but mostly because they will not listen to God and His healing power in His son. I love to preach because I can bring good news to hurting people----they can be helped if they apply the remedy to their needs. (Matthew 11:28, 29).

Do you know what? The world will never know about the Bible and all it has for them unless someone tells them. And, with your prayers and financial support, we can continue proclaiming the Gospel to the nations. We have no other source of income except from God’s people. I know that will be sufficient for all the needs we have to carry out God’s will for the ministry of the Christian Worship Hour. (Philippians 4:19).

God bless you.

In our Savior’s love,

Pastor Salem
