The Light of the World

Bible Study

Dear fellow worker of the Christian Worship Hour:

“I AM the Light of the world; he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness,

but shall have the light of life.” John 8:12

From the writings of Pastor Salem:

Consider that glorious statement, “I AM the Light of the world.”:

v THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD IS JESUS. The Jews would immediately think of the Pillar of Light that led their forefathers through the wilderness and now it is Jesus shining through all the world! The Psalmist said, “the Lord is my light” (Psalm 27:1). Isaiah declared there would be “a light to the Gentiles” (Isaiah 49:6). No question about it, Jesus is the light of the world. (Isaiah 9:2; John 1:4).

v THIS WONDERFUL LIGHT BRINGS US TO SALVATION. The whole world was lost in the darkness of sin. (Matthew 4:15,16). I was one of them until, one night years ago, I opened my heart to Jesus and the Light of the World saved my soul and took me out of the devil’s kingdom of darkness into God’s Kingdom of Light! I pray to God if you haven’t done so, you will do it today! Call upon His Name and be saved. (Romans 10:13; Revelation 3:20).

v THIS GLORIOUS LIGHT GUIDES US THROUGH LIFE. Jesus said that if we followed Him, He would show us the way through life. (John 8:12). Life is a pilgrimage, and we need a guide, Jesus is that Guide! (Psalm 119:105). When we travel with Jesus we find peace at heart. (John 14:27). We have companionship and fellowship with the Son of God and Christ’s presence is with us all through life. Can you imagine that? Walking with Jesus in the sunlight all through life knowing He is ever with us! (Hebrews 13:5). So that gives us hope for tomorrow because, though we do not know what tomorrow holds, there isn’t anything that our dear Lord can’t handle. (Philippians 4:13). There it is, “he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness!” But there is a catch to all of this, and that is we have to be committed to the Lord and dedicated to Him. (Psalm 36:9; John 1:9).

v THIS BEAUTIFUL LIGHT LEADS US TO HEAVEN AND HOME! You know what, that wonderful light grows brighter day by day! (Proverbs 4:18). As we walk with the Lord, He becomes more real, closer, brighter. And that continues as He leads us through this wilderness journey, just look at how many ways He led David. (Psalm 23). Well, He will do for you and me what He did for David, if we just cooperate. And then will come that day when we walk that last mile, and heaven will begin to shine in a beauty we cannot describe. (I Corinthians 2:9). Have you seen the Light? If not, ask Jesus to come into your heart and wash away your sins, and the Light of the world will be your companion until you are safe at home!

But, while we revel in this wonderful thought, that Jesus Christ will never change and that He is ever by our side---how many do you suppose are lost at sea, at their wits end, floundering and dying in utter despair because they do not have a personal relationship with the unchanging Christ. We, who know Him, MUST share Him! (Matthew 28:18-20).

You can do that by joining hands with us proclaiming the Good News of the Gospel all over the world, by praying, telling others of our service, and giving. Friends, we can carry on only as long as God’s people supply our needs. Ask God what He wants you to do. He will show you what part you should have in this ministry. Our thanks to all of you who have helped us to this point, and to all who will help us carry on, perhaps until Jesus comes again. (I Thessalonians 4:15-18).

God bless you.

In our Savior’s love,

Pastor Salem

How To Have a Happy New Year

A Devotional Bible Study from the writings of Pastor Salem…

“HOW TO HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR!”

In the Book of Philippians, chapter four, there are SIX eternal promises that will carry us through any rough spots that might lie ahead.

¯ “REJOICE IN THE LORD ALWAYS”, vs 4.  God tells His children; we should always be happy and rejoicing.  The thing to remember is, if God tells us to do something, He will enable us to do it!  So, next time you stub your toe, give thanks and praise to God and rejoice in Him.  Impossible?  If you try to do it on your own, well yes, it is, but if we do it with the Lord’s help, it is possible.  A verse that helps me a lot in time of trouble is Romans 8:28—that ALL things (good and bad) work together for good.  (Psalm 19:8; Psalm 32:11; I Peter 4:13; Revelation 19:7).

¯ “BE CAREFUL FOR NOTHING”, vs 6.  This should be translated ‘anxious’ for nothing.  In other words, don’t worry and fret.  When I was out on the farm, we had old setting hens that continually fretted and fussed over their chicks.  We hated to see them in such a tizzy, so we made soup out of them!  A lot of Christians are in a stew because they don’t rely on God.  The chickens didn’t have a Bible, so they didn’t have an excuse for worrying.  We don’t have any excuses.  (Psalm 62:8; Psalm 125:1; Isaiah 26:4; Jeremiah 17:7, 8).

¯ “WE CAN HAVE THE PEACE OF GOD”, vs 7.  Isaiah said that the “wicked are like the troubled sea…. whose waters cast up mire and dirt” (Isaiah 57:20).  But you know what, there are plenty of Christians who have the same condition! You know why?  They are not at peace with God---they have some sin in their life that destroys the fellowship God wants to have with them.  To have real peace with God, we have to forsake all known sin.  Not easy, but worth it! (Psalm 85:8; Psalm 122:6-8; Isaiah 48:22, Isaiah 57:21; I John 1:9).

¯ “I CAN BE CONTENT”, vs 11.  Have you ever noticed how discontented the people out in the world are?  They are never satisfied, but are running hither, thither, and yon looking for something to fulfill them.  But they will never be content until they have Christ in their heart.  We were made for God and until and unless we have God in our life through personally accepting Jesus, we will never be at ease.  On the other hand, if we have Christ in our heart, we will be content no matter what we have, or don’t have.  (Psalm 23:2; Matthew 5:6; Luke 6:21; Philippians 4:12).

¯ “I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST”, vs 13.  None of us knows what lies ahead.  Chances are that there will be the good things and the bad—because that is what life is made out of.  But one thing we can know, and that is, with Jesus all things are possible and with His help we will have the strength for anything that might come our way.  The key to it all is, we must be in the Father’s will.  So, God taught us to pray that, not my will, but His be done.  Satan and his hosts of hell cannot so much as touch us if we remain in the Lord’s will.  (Ezra 10:4; Psalm 27:14; Isaiah 40:28-31; I Corinthians 1:27-29; 4:10; Hebrews 11:33-40).

¯ “GOD WILL SUPPLY ALL MY NEEDS”, vs 19.  All my needs, that takes in the material, physical, spiritual, emotional, financial and you name it!  Since God made everything, He owns everything, and He shares it with us as we need it.  That does not mean we will not have troubles and trials, Jesus said we would.  But it means God will see us through anything that He allows to come our way.  (Exodus 16:4-10; I Kings 17:2-7; Matthew 6:25-34; I Timothy 6:17).
