"A New Song" July 2021
Dear fellow worker of the Christian Worship Hour:
With the celebration of the Fourth of July I am always reminded of the words of our Lord when He declared, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” John 8:36
When we celebrate the Fourth of July we celebrate the material freedom we have as Americans; when Jesus spoke He referred to the spiritual freedom we have as Christians.
- FREEDOM IS VERY COSTLY. Every time we read of a fatality among our servicemen and women in war, we know that the superior sacrifice has been paid. It makes one’s heartache. Someone died for our freedom, what a terrible cost. And yet, when it comes to our spiritual freedom, we know it cost the Son of God, if you can imagine it! God loved us so much that He gave all that He had, His beloved Son, to die for us and set us free for the sins that would have dragged us into Hell. (John 3:16). You could say that there is no earthly way to measure the cost of paying for our sins, yet Jesus did it even while we were His enemies. (Romans 5:10). Our salvation cost a terrible price!
- FREEDOM CAN BE LOST. Be careful now! I did not say “salvation could be lost” for that is impossible. Jesus tells us He holds us in His hands and then God holds Him in His hands—so it is impossible to lose our salvation. (John 10:28-29). But we can lose our freedom in Christ. We call that legalism. We get tied down with all sorts of rules and regulations (Galatians 4:9-11). We can lose our liberty through evil habits such as drugs, alcohol, lottery, sex outside of marriage, gambling and the like. We must guard against such slavery. (Colossians 2:16,17; Titus 3:5).
- FREEDOM CAN BE ABUSED. Paul talked about that when he said, that some things, under grace, were permissible, yet if it caused some weaker Christian to stumble, he would refrain from those things. (I Corinthians 8:13). We see American liberty abused with some of the terrible movies and TV programs and with literature that inflames the lust of many, especially weak Christians! (I Corinthians 8:9). “Freedom of Speech: can be used to hurt and harm others. (James 3:5,6; James 3:8-10).
- FREEDOM OF THE SOUL IS FOUND ONLY IN JESUS. Jesus told us as plain as day three ways you CANNOT be born again in John 1:13. First, “not of blood”, that is, through your parents. Your parents may be the most wonderful Christians on earth, but they cannot pass salvation unto you. Second, “nor of the will of the flesh”. That is, you cannot make yourself a Christian by your own will. You cannot just say, “I will make myself a Christian”. Third, “nor of the will of man”, that is, no one on earth can make you a Christian be it a pastor, priest, rabbi, or magician! ONLY through a personal acceptance of Jesus, calling upon His Name, can we become a Christian and that is by the Word of God and the Spirit of God. (Acts 2:21).
Friend, it is the fervent prayer of all of us at the Christian Worship Hour that you have accepted Jesus and
found that wonderful freedom we have in the Savior. If you are not sure, write us and we will send
information and will pray for you. And, if you have found that freedom, be sure you are using it to honor
our Lord.
And thank you for your gifts! We have no other source of income except from God’s people. We can go only so far as you make it possible.
God bless you. See you next week on the Christian Worship Hour.
In our Savior’s Love,
Pastor Salem
“And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.”
(Revelation 14:13)

In Loving Memory of PASTOR HAROLD E. SALEM
Our family would like to thank you all for the outpouring of love you have shown us during this time. Our dad loved the Lord with his heart and soul. As a result, he loved people and desired that they would receive Jesus as their Savior. It was our privilege to be able to call this man of God “dad”. We loved dad greatly and will miss him daily. We look forward to the day we will see dad again. Thank you once again for your gifts to CWH and for the prayers that have sustained us.
