How to be Beautiful
Dear fellow worker of the Christian Worship Hour:
The great Moses has a beautiful statement on how we should live out our life, he admonishes---
“And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us.” Psalm 90:17
From the writings of Pastor Salem:
He means, to let the beauty of God shine in us and through us.
v WE SEE THE BEAUTY OF THE LORD IN THE FAITH OF ABRAHAM. We see it first when he left his home and loved ones so as to travel to a far-off land. (Genesis 12:1-4). We see it when he was willing to offer up his dear son, Isaac, believing God would raise him from the dead. (Hebrews 11:17-19). The beauty of the Lord is upon us when we trust God fully.
v WE SEE THE BEAUTY OF THE LORD IN THE PATIENCE OF JOB. Though all earthly possessions were swept away from him (Job 1:13-19) and though his health was horrible (Job 2:7-9), he waited upon God and declared, “though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him.” (Job 13:15). We must be like Job, never doubting, no matter what.
v WE SEE THE BEAUTY OF THE LORD IN THE FORGIVENESS OF JOSEPH. Even though his brothers sold him into slavery, he forgave them. (Genesis 45:4-8). All of us have been sinned against, but we have the beauty of the Lord shining from us when we freely forgive. (Matthew 6:14).
v WE SEE THE BEAUTY OF THE LORD IN THE MEEKNESS OF MOSES. Think of how he was abused by the children of Israel, yet never gave up but prayed for them constantly. God said he was the meekest man on earth. (Numbers 12:3). We look more and more like Jesus when we do not strike back! (Matthew 5:5).
v WE SEE THE BEAUTY OF THE LORD IN THE BOLDNESS OF ELIJAH. He stands up, alone on Mount Carmel, and calls down fire from heaven in the face of the false prophets of Baal. Sometimes we have to stand alone, boldly, witnessing for our Lord. (II Timothy 2:3).
v WE SEE THE BEAUTY OF THE LORD IN THE FAITHFULNESS OF DANIEL. Daniel stood true to God in a godless court, some scholars say into his 90’s! The beauty of Daniel is that he never stopped serving God, You know what, and we can do the same thing! (II Timothy 4:7).
v WE SEE THE BEAUTY OF THE LORD IN THE STEADFASTNESS OF PAUL. Paul never gave up. He was scourged and stoned and left for dead----but he got up (maybe God raised him from the dead) and served the Lord against all odds. (Acts 14:19). Let us all be like Paul! (II Corinthians 11:22-28).
v WE SEE THE BEAUTY OF THE LORD IN THE LOVE OF JOHN. He leaned upon the Savior’s breast and is pointed out as a disciple of Love. (John 21:20 & 24). We shine for Jesus when we show our love for others. (John 15:12).
v WE SEE THE BEAUTY OF THE LORD IN THE ZEAL OF PETER. Peter was a fireball! He was the spokesman for the disciples and always in the lead. We may not be the leader, but we can be on fire for God. Burn out, don’t rust out! (Philippians 1:6).
Dear friend, YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL, when you have a part in bringing the gospel to people all over the world shortwave radio and television. Paul says your feet are beautiful when you help bring the good news to the lost. (Romans 10:15). So, thanks for your PRAYERS, the most important part. Thanks for your GIFTS, which are also important, and without which, we cannot go on. Thanks when you TELL OTHERS, and share the good news with the lost, the hurting, and the discouraged!
God bless you.
In our Savior’s love,
Pastor Salem

“SOME GREAT PROMISES OF GOD”
“By which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.”
II Peter 1:4 ESV
Hey, friend, do you want to hear some good news? Who doesn't? The good news I have comes from God, and you can count on it. For instance, if you are down and out and need HELP, listen to Hebrews 13:5, 6. “He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, “The Lord is my helper.” I do not know what your problem is, nor do you know mine, but we know that God will help us in time of need.
Another promise that God gives us is STRENGTH. How many times have we run out of gas, emotionally or spiritually, but turning to Jesus we find strength for the day. God tells us through His prophet Isaiah, “Fear thou not; for...I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee.” (Isaiah 41:10). St. Paul knew all about it for he said, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthened me.” (Philippians 4:13).
Do you ever get down in the mouth? Sad-eyed, despondent. Well, the next time that happens just claim the promise of our Lord given in Matthew 14:27 where He promises us, “Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.” God does not want His children running around the countryside looking like seven days’ rain. He is a good Father who wants us to be HAPPY.
And, oh yes, the decisions of life. They are constantly confronting us and we have to choose one way or the other. However, which fork in the road do we take? Claim the promise of God, “For this God is our God for ever and ever; He will be our GUIDE even unto death”. (Psalm 48:14). The only problem is that we do not consult Him, we just blunder along! Nevertheless, the help is always there if we take it.
Then, as we travel through life, we stub our toe, and you know what, it hurts. However, it is not always our fault; sometimes others bring sorrow into our lives. Jesus told us there would be troubles in life. Nevertheless, here comes the good news from God, listen to Him tell His people, “As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I COMFORT you. (Isaiah 66:13). When the hot tears flow down your cheek, look to Jesus. Like a gentle, caring mother, He takes us in His arms and holds us close to His great heart—and the hurt subsides. It may not go away, but Jesus will help us through the hard times of life.
Do you know what Jesus does? He not only comforts us in our sorrow, but in the midst of it all, like a beautiful rainbow after a rain, He brings beauty and joy into our lives. The Psalmist says, “They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.” (Psalm 126:5). It is true that, when we get to heaven, we will be filled with JOY, but listen, while we still have our feet on this earth, we can have joy amid the storm. Impossible? For us, yes, but with God all things are possible and the sun of joy will shine in the darkest night.
One more promise God gave us just before He went back to heaven is He told His followers, “But ye shall receive POWER, after the Holy Spirit is come upon you; and ye shall be witnesses unto me. (Acts 1:8). Jesus not only calls upon us to be witnesses for Him, but He also promises that if we obey Him, He will give us strength for the day, the task or whatever we face.
St. Peter says that God has “given to us exceedingly great and precious promises.” (II Peter 1:4). However, there is a catch to it, and that is, we will never enjoy those promises until and unless we allow them to come in by FAITH! Good news, well I guess, but only if we take them as our own.
