"A New Song" JUNE 2016
Dear fellow worker of the Christian Worship Hour:
We hear a lot about love these days. Some of it is genuine while much is very superficial. Which reminds me of the young man who rushed into a card shop and asked the clerk to find him a card that said, “To my sweetheart, I love you more than anyone in the world.” The clerk found the exact card whereupon the young man said, “Perfect. Give me four of them! This bird didn’t have any idea of what true love was. So let’s spend some time on, “What is true love?”
- TRUE LOVE HATES
Sound a little odd? Well if we love God, we will hate sin. If we love freedom, we will hate bondage. If we love virtue, we will hate vice. If we love truth, we will hate falsehood. That is exactly what Jesus taught us. “No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.” (Matt. 6:24). Yes indeed, true love hates! - TRUE LOVE CHASTENS
When we become a child of God, God begins to make us better—to make us like Him. The Bible tells us, “For whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom He receiveth.” (Heb. 12:6). Chastening is no fun, but it produces fruit honoring God. (Heb. 12:11) - TRUE LOVE LISTENS
Have you ever been talking to someone, telling them the problems of your heart, only to see them looking off yonder like a gander in a strange barnyard? I have. But when the prophet Malachi preached to the back slidden people of his day, they pain attention; they listened to God. Because they listened and repented, God was pleased; but He always listens to us! Praise His Name. (Malachi 3:16) - TRUE LOVE CARES
Just think of our children and how much we love and care for them. Not only our children, but our grandchildren and great grandchildren. We care for them and watch over them because love compels us to do that. God tells of those who repented, “They shall be Mine, saith the Lord of Hosts, in that day when I make up My jewels.” (Malachi 3:17) In the New Testament Jesus told us how He cares for us. He cares by holding us in His hand! I don’t hold onto Jesus—He holds onto me! (John 10:28) But more than that, the Father in Heaven holds the hands of Jesus! You see how much He cares for you! (John 10:29) - TRUE LOVE ACTS
It has been said, “You can give without love (like our income tax), but you can’t love without giving.” That is, if we love, we will give; no way to stop it. Just think of how God loved and how He gave! He gave His beloved Son to die a terrible death on the cross because He loved us and made it possible to cleanse us from our sin. (John 3:16) Of course it follows, we love God because He first loved us and gave His Son to be a sacrifice for our sins! (I John 4:10) Because we love Him, we give to Him. - TRUE LOVE ENDURES
Sometimes love is like a flash in the pan; it is there for a little while and then gone. I have dealt with many a person who was devastated over a broken love affair. But when we come to God, we are loved with a love that will never end! Nor will it ever fail. I know I have failed Jesus, but He has never failed me. He said He would never leave me or forsake me, no matter what. (Hebrews 13:5). We sure don’t deserve that kind of love, yet we have it in Jesus. St. Paul really topped it off when he asked, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?” Then he names at least 18 things that cannot separate us from God’s love! (Romans 8:35-39) If you don’t have anything to do someday, try to find something Paul left out. Paul covered absolutely everything!
Again I close with the same old song and dance—pray for us, give liberally to the ministry, and tell everybody about it. What more can I say?
God bless you. Be looking for you this weekend!
In our Savior’s Love,
Harold E. Salem, Pastor
I hope all of you are happy in the Lord Jesus who died on the cross for the remission of your sins. Listen, I saw you on television yesterday preaching to a lot of people. I don’t think they had second thoughts about it, but I think the sermons were edifying. I just thought I would write and let you know. Now I know why some people aren’t responding to the gospel? Why? Because they feel it will separate them from what they are enjoying now. They need a missionary to counsel with them. I would say “Don’t force them”. Anyway, I will say bye, bye for now. I will hear from you soon.
BRONX, NEW YORK
Keep preaching the true way to salvation as my 11 year old granddaughter came to know Jesus Christ through your ministry.
DEER RIVER, MINNESOTA
You are so loved by the residents at the nursing home in Scotland, South Dakota. I want to give so they can keep watching.
BRANDON, SOUTH DAKOTA
In February this year, my husband passed away. About two months before he died, we were listening to you on Sunday morning. He received Jesus and forgiveness of sin. I pray for the Christian Worship Hour that many come to receive Jesus.
MOORHEAD, MINNESOTA
Keep up the great work! We love your services, half tank until Sunday refills!
OVERLAND PARK, KANSAS
Thank you so much for the booklet that you sent. It did help a ton. I do have faith that I am forgiven and am going to heaven now. But I have another question: what about when judgement day comes? I heard that is just for Christian works here on earth and not our sins. So God won’t bring up my sin of murder on that day and judge me for it?
DENVER, COLORDAO
I turned my TV on Sunday afternoon at 2 pm, I think it was Daystar, and I heard you talking. The subject was an elderly/old people. I am 77 and the last few years I have thought of myself as OLD and UGLY. After listening to your sermon I discovered that I am only OLD. I did not catch your name or if you had a number I could call. I would very much like to get a copy of this sermon. There were wonderful verses on seniors from the Bible. I didn’t know how much God really liked old people. God be with you and your wonderful program. Never heard a sermon on the elderly before. It was beautiful. Love and God’s blessing.
CALGARY, ALBERTA, CANADA
My 12 year old grandson said he will be sad if you go off the air. I’m praying for you and your ministry. Your sister in Christ. God speed.
CLAREMONT, FLORIDA
I have been saved 3 different times but feel like I haven’t. Could you please give me advice to lead me down the path? Sincerely.
PIERRE, SOUTH DAKOTA
I watch your program every Sunday morning. e I am a soldier in the Salvation Army and I pay my tithes and service to them. I had this hundred and I prayed to God to put in my heart what I should do with it. I believe God put your ministry in my heart. I enjoy listening to you and I can understand what you are saying you preach the cross and that is what it is all about. God bless you and your ministry. Your sister in Christ.
PORT RICHIE, FLORIDA
Being at a spiritual impasse at this phase in my life makes me question everything that I have always believed. My life has descended into a cesspool of something so horrid. I can only see darkness and feel emptiness. Would you sow a seed of some of your life transforming material, your choice, into my life. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to read and consider my request. May our loving Father continue to bless you with the faith of Abraham, the heart of David, the wisdom of Solomon and the mind of Jesus Christ. In brokenness before Him.
EL DORADE, ARKANSAS
Please send some information for my son. He accepted the Lord. Thank you.
VEBLEN, SOUTH DAKOTA
“And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me,
Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit,
that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.”
