"A New Song" March 2025
Marks Of A Mature Believer
Dear fellow worker of the Christian Worship Hour:
St. Paul sadly tells the Corinthian believers,
“I have fed you with milk, and not with solid food; for to this time ye were not able
to bear it.” I Corinthians 3:2.
From the writings of Pastor Salem:
This causes us to ask, “Are you a bottle fed Christian or one on good, solid meat? Here’s FIVE ways to find out:
v A MATURE BELIEVER EATS SOLID FOOD. A baby is a beautiful thing; we love them, coddle them, and baby them all over the place. But when that kid gets to be 21 and is still on the baby level, one gets frustrated, and he isn’t so cute anymore. That was Paul’s complaint on the Corinthians; they weren’t growing in the Lord. St. John speaks of the stages of growth for believers as, “little children, young men, fathers” (I John 2:13). To grow calls for a Bible study, prayer, service, fellowship with other believers. (Hebrews 10:25; II Peter 3:18).
v A MATURE BELIEVER BEARS THE BURDENS OF OTHERS. Satan afflicts the people of God every way he can, so we must respond by helping a hurting brother or sister. One of the main goals of the Christian Worship Hour is to comfort and help God’s people. God told Isaiah to do that, and He has called us also. (Isaiah 40:1). Look for those hurting, listen to those who cry, sympathize with those who have lost a loved one, maybe the closest on earth to them has been taken. So, shoulder some of their sorrow and bring a ray of hope into their life. That is what Jesus does. (Matthew 11:30; Galatians 6:2).
v A MATURE BELIEVER HAS A FORGIVING SPIRIT. Mark it down, dear friend, before you get to the end of your journey, someone is going to do you harm! You are going to get hurt. You may be broken hearted. But Jesus told us never to strike back, and to even forgive our enemies! (Matthew 5:44). It’s hard to forgive when you want to strike back. As a matter of fact, you cannot forgive by yourself, we have to have the dear Lord’s help and the strength the Holy Spirit gives us. But Jesus tells us to follow His example. Look at what they did to Jesus. My afflictions are little alongside of His! (Luke 23:34).
v A MATURE BELIEVER RADIATES THE LOVE OF CHRIST. As we grow in Christ and live in His Word, we become more like Him. Jesus told us we were to “let your light so shine” that others will come to know God and thus glorify Him. (Matthew 5:16). Jesus is the Light of the world, and the more Jesus controls our life the brighter we shine for Him. Mature believers shine for Jesus while the baby ones just keep making a pest of themselves! (John 15:13).
v A MATURE BELIEVER PRODUCES THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT. Nine of them are named in Galatians 5:22,23. At the top of the list, because it is by far the most important, is LOVE. It is not puppy love, or money love, or self-love, but the Love of God shed abroad in our heart. Don’t look for it at Wal-Mart because it only comes as we yield and mature in Christ Jesus. The main attribute of God is love and if we are close to Him, His love will shine through! (I Corinthians 13). Jesus said that mature Christians show their love. (Luke 10:30-37; John 13:35).
Mature believers have a heart for a lost and hurting world. Lost because they do not know Jesus as Savior, and hurting because in this world we will have tribulations. (John 16:33). Thank you for being a part of our team by GIVING liberally; PRAYING fervently; TELLING OTHERS earnestly. God bless you.
In our Savior’s love,
Pastor Salem
