"A New Song" MAY 2018
Dear fellow worker of the Christian Worship Hour:
In Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, the greatest sermon ever preached, He told His followers what He
expected of them. One thing He wanted us to do is to stop being a sour-puss, a wet blanket, a kill-
joy, and to shine for Him in a dark, lost world. Jesus commanded:
“Let your light so shine among men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your
Father, which is in heaven” Matthew 5:16
Have you seen some of these so-called “good” Christians running around the countryside with a face
a foot long, doleful, sorrowful, like as if they had been baptized in dill pickle juice? Jesus is telling us
shine as a light in a pitch dark world. What kind of a light does God want?
IT MUST BE A PURE LIGHT. In the good old days, we had lamps with wicks. If the wicks weren’t trimmed right the flame would smoke up the lamp chimney and blur the light. The same goes for God’s people, if we are going to have a light really shining for Jesus, we are going to have to clean up our act and live a separated life for God. We are commanded to “come out from among them and be ye separate and touch not the unclean thing”. (II Cor. 6:17; Romans 12:1).
IT MUST BE A STRONG LIGHT. WHY? Because the Devil will try to blow it out—he’s in the blowing business, you know. If he can get a saint of God discouraged, the light won’t shine very strong or far. If he can get God’s child all mixed up in the things of the world, there won’t be much light. (II Cor. 7:1). Sometimes the Devil holds up a little piece of gold, and the weak Christian falls in love with it, and the light flickers and fails. (Prov. 16:25).
IT MUST BE A STEADY LIGHT. We’ve got a bunch of Christians that are like fireflies, now you see them, now you don’t. When the skies are grey and the strong wind blows—-then, like a lighthouse on a cliff, the Christian needs to shine forth because when they see the light of our life and testimony, they are drawn to Jesus! (Dan.12:3) (Gal. 6:9).
IT NEEDS TO BE A CHEERFUL LIGHT. When I run into some of these gloomy Gus’s who claim to be Christians it makes me want to stay out in the dark. Nehemiah said that “the joy of the Lord is your strength” (Neh. 8:10). When we are happy and joyous, it attracts people, that’s what they want. There are some people you like to be around, and there are some you would like to quarantine. Get a smile on your face and a spring in your step and the light will shine. (Prov. 16:13) (II Cor. 9:7).
IT MUST BE EVER INCREASING. God tells us that “the path of the just is like the shining light” (Prov. 4:16). The longer we walk with Jesus the closer we get to Him, and being close to Him lights up our life and the love of Jesus shines forth and brightens all about us and shows them the way home to heaven. The Bible tells us, “The path of the just is like the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.” (Prov. 4:18). Our light can help some poor, lost soul find his or her way to heaven. (John 14:1-6).
So, we shine for Jesus! We do it individually, and we do it as a body of Believers through the Christian Worship Hour. Alone, we cannot reach all of the world, but as a body we are doing it through our ministry. Help us shine with your PRAYERS & GIFTS. We can only shine as far as you all make it possible since our ONLY source of income is from God’s people! So, in Jesus’ Name we thank you. Love you, bless you.
I’ll be looking for you this weekend!
In Our Savior’s Love,
Harold E. Salem, pastor
THANK YOU FOR WRITING…
I respectfully request any literature you might, could send me that would help me on my journey to be a better Christian.
BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANNA
I’ve been a quadriplegic, paralyzed from the shoulders down, for nearly 50 years, and each day gets me closer to doing a Happy-Dance on the streets of gold.
ROGERS, MINNESOTA
I believe in God and I believe that He sent His Only Son to die on the Cross for our sins and I try to serve Him the best I can. But one thing I lack of, Pastor, is the Holy Spirit. So what must I do to receive it. There is something I am not doing right or the time has not yet come for me to receive.
DANNEMORA, NEW YORK
Today was the first time I saw your program. I would like to say thank you. You have changed my life today. Thanks again. Praise the Lord for your program.
NEW PORT RICHEY, FLORIDA
I wanted to write to tell you how much I enjoy your television show. I try to watch it every day. I am a university graduate of Oklahoma State University. My sister and my mother also live in Tulsa. Thank you for your help.
TULSA, OKLAHOMA
When I doubt or fear I sing in my head, “Jesus loves me, this I know for the Bible tells me so”. I can then go to sleep at night. Love to you all.
EVANSVILLE, WYOMING
I am not so well but I’m thankful to God for another day to live. I’m very sick with breast cancer and presently at the hospital bedridden. I need your prayers.
LONDON, ENGLAND
Dear Pastor Salem, I enjoy listening to you preach every Sunday. I learn so much from you. I am 10 years old and I thank God for all of my blessings every day. Thank you for telling me about every important detail about our Lord Jesus. God bless you.
MONDAMIN, IOWA
Thank you for loving all of us and teaching us how much God loves us and that He always holds our hand every day of our lives on this earth.
ST. LOUIS PARK, MINNESOTA
I welcome the Lord into my life and it is wonderful. Keep up the great work and you will have more followers. May God bless you.
FARGO, NORTH DAKOTA
Dear Pastor Salem and Crew, Thank you for your continued Bible teaching. I have been listening to your audio broadcast since returning to this remote Alaskan Eskimo village in 2016. I try to learn from the Bible every day but get so reinforced Sundays. Then I take some verses and songs to Chapel in the Mountain Church to share with those three or four other worshippers who attend. The man who served as the pastor passed away suddenly in December but we continue to meet around a table, reading God’s Word, singing hymns in English and in Inupiat, the native language of the Nunamiut (“noon-ah-meeyoot”) people and get prayer requests and pray. Keep us in your prayers, as many of the 350 people here are so lost in alcohol and drugs and sexual deviousness. Thank you and may our Father God continue to bless His faithful servants at Christian Worship Hour. In Jesus
