"A New Song" OCTOBER 2019
Dear fellow worker of the Christian Worship Hour:
“IS THERE ANY GOOD NEWS FROM GOD?” Notice, I did not ask if there was any good news from man. Just watch the evening news, listen to the radio or read the newspaper and what do you find? Death, disease, disaster, hunger, starving, babies crying, elderly suffering! That’s the news I get from man. So, I ask you, is there any good news from God? You bet, and plenty of it! Let me list some of the good news items from God.
GOOD NEWS: GOD LOVES ME. That is REALLY good news because I was a poor, lost sinner, and to make it worse, I was a downright enemy of God, and yet, even though I was an enemy and rebelled against God, He loved me! (Rom. 5:10). Talk about good news! I didn’t deserve anything but the wrath of God, but instead, He gave me love. And, oh, He didn’t just love a tiny bit, but a whole lot, so much that He gave His only begotten Son to die for me on a cruel, Roman cross. (John 3:16). You won’t read that in the evening newspaper that men publish.
GOOD NEWS: GOD WILL SAVE ME. Save me, from what? Stubbing my toe? No sir, HE will save me from hell! And you want to know something else, only God could do it! Did you ever stop to think what it would be like to be isolated in total darkness with weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth! (Matt. 13:50). But the good news is that this wonderful God in heaven paid for my sins in full and I will never be lost! (John 10:28-29). You won’t read about that in the evening paper either.
GOOD NEWS: GOD WILL KEEP ME SAFE. I never have to worry because God has given me eternal life. Jesus said that if we believe in Him, accepting Him into our life, we “HAVE” eternal life. (John 5:24). You know what that means? It means that we have eternal life the moment we believe in Jesus—that we don’t wait until we get to heaven to get eternal life, we have it within us right now! Don’t forget that “HATH” that Jesus put into that verse.
GOOD NEWS: GOD WILL HELP ME. The Psalmist said that God was “a very present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1). We all have troubles of one sort or another in this wilderness journey. (John 16:33). But the good news from God is that he will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5) and that he would always be with us, no matter what. (Matt. 28:20). I want to tell you a little secret, my dear friend; with Jesus with us we fear no man or condition! Satan can huff like the old wolf, but he can’t touch a hair on our head unless the dear Lord allows it! (Job 1:12). Try finding good news like that in the evening newspaper!
GOOD NEWS: GOD WILL WATCH OVER ME. He knows the way that I take in this life. (Psalm 139:2, 3). I do not know what will happen tomorrow—come to think about it, I don’t know what will happen in the next ten seconds! But listen to this, God knows all of my tomorrows! He is never surprised at the turn of events—never surprised because He knows my pathway all through life. He has a plan for each of His children, so we just trust Him and rejoice each day. Next time you feel lonely, or misunderstood, or unloved; just remember the heavenly Father is watching over you with an eye that never sleeps. (Psalm 121:4).
GOOD NEWS: GOD WILL TAKE ME HOME SOMEDAY. Jesus told his disciples, just before his ascension, that he was going away to heaven, but, He also said, “I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” (John 14:3). How does that make you feel? It thrills my soul! It is good news! I’m going home someday. Jesus has my departure date set! So, take heart. Use your newspaper for garbage—use the good news of the gospel for rejoicing and giving praise to God!
And don’t forget. We need your prayers, and we need your gifts. We have no other source of income. So, talk to God about it and we’ll carry on as long as you pay the bills.
In our Savior’s Love,
Harold E. Salem, Pastor
THANK YOU FOR WRITING…
My wife gets headaches all the time and it is 24 miles to the nearest church. Recently on Easter Sunday, I got to enjoy your program while holding ice on her head. It was comforting to me to hear the gospel and yet being able to help my wife.
VALPARAISO, NEBRASKA
Dear Mr. Postmaster or Postmistress, Do you know Jesus? He always loves you no matter what! WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA
I was born in Lima, Peru and living in the United States since 1984. I want to express my gratitude for you and your ministry. During the month of March 2018, I learned the meaning for the Blood of the Lamb. Your explanation about the shed of blood (sacrifice) in the Old Testament finally made sense to me. You do a great job. Your sermons are easy to understand.
WOODBRIDGE, VIRGINIA
I am writing to say my husband has been a viewer of yours since he was in the 9th grade. He is now 56.
HIAWATHA, IOWA
Thank you for your ministry—spirit filled and for your video “Heart of a Shepherd”. We love it and see it over again. We share it at our assisted living apartments. To God be the Glory. Our young friend viewed it and she said “It seemed like only 15 minutes, not an hour. (She loved it).
WESTBROOK, MINNESOTA
The “Heart of a Shepherd”, DVD is very well done. I first saw it as it was loaned to me by relatives. A few weeks ago, on a snow day with no school, I pretty much made two of my daughters, age 13 and 10 watch the one-hour version. The 10-year-old was not happy about it. It wasn’t “Super Girl” after all. However, once it started she was fine. When it was over the 10-year-old said, “That was an hour?” It felt like 15 minutes”. Have a wonderful day.
LAMBERTON, MINNESOTA
On behalf of my sister, my nephew and his two children, I am sending this seed-gift to support the gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO, WEST INDIES
Greetings in the name of Jesus. Please will you send me “Heart of a Shepherd”. I have unsaved family and I want them to see this, 2 sons now 51, 52 and are unsaved but we’ve brought them up in a Christian family. Also a daughter of 40 years. Thank you for the gospel message on “Gospel Channel”. May God bless your ministry. Please continue the good work. You have blessed me as I listen this morning, “Jesus is Lord”. Thank you Jesus.
YORKSHIRE, ENGLAND
Dear Pastor Salem, your words are inspiring to a young Christian. I gave my heart to Jesus 2 years ago. I knew for a very long time, but I was too slow to ask to be redeemed. I am a 68-year-old male. Thanks for the grace of God, the Holy Bible speaks to me now. I am reading more scriptures than ever now. I look forward to your Sunday ministry each week. God bless and keep you in Jesus name.
FAIRBANKS, ALASKA
A 12-year-old African-American boy was shot and killed at his front door. He was baptized on his own request 3 weeks earlier. (This was recently, 2019). The church was New Salem Missionary Baptist where he walked to church. It is a small town. Pray for the church.
OKMULGEE, OKLAHOMA
I, too, am in my 90’s (94) and I try to remember this, “If you have a pulse, you have a purpose”.
INDIANOLA, IOWA
“And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.”
(Revelation 14:13)
