DEVOTIONAL BIBLE STUDY: “Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, and forever”
Dear fellow worker of the Christian Worship Hour:
Everything about Jesus is glorious. His power, mercy, love, wisdom, knowledge---you name it. He is always that, He is always the same. Humankind is like the wind, continually changing. Jesus is like the rock, He is forever the same.
“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today, forever!”
Hebrews 13:8

Four ways in which He does not change:
v CHRIST IS THE SAME IN HIS HATRED OF SIN. God hates sin; there will be no sin in heaven. (Revelation 21:27). In fact, God hates sin so much that when His only begotten Son took upon himself the hideous sins of the whole world and carried them to the cross, God turned His back on Him and let Him die alone! God cannot condone sin. (Matthew 27:46). Christ is God and His attitude toward sin is precisely the same as the Father. (John 17:14).
v CHRIST IS THE SAME IN HIS LOVE FOR THE SINNER. God loved us poor lost sinners so much that He sent His Son to die for us. (John 3:16). Even while we were His enemies, He laid down His life for us. (Romans 5:10). God is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. (II Peter 3:9). Friends, we must have the same love for the lost. God’s love for the lost has not faded, nor should ours. (Acts 4:12).
v CHRIST IS THE SAME IN HIS DEMANDS ON HIS CHILDREN. When we accept the Lord Jesus as our Savior, it is understood that we will follow Him and serve Him for the rest of our days. It just follows that, if He is good enough to save us, He is good enough to lead us, to show us His will for our life. Jesus never tried to hide the fact that if we accepted Him we would serve Him. (Matthew 10:38). As plain as day, Jesus challenged His disciples, with, “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross and follow Me.” (Matthew 16:24).
v CHRIST IS THE SAME IN HIS LOVE FOR HIS CHILDREN. When I went to Sunday school as a little child, we sang the song, “Jesus Loves Me”. I always tried to be good so Jesus would love me, but I failed miserably time and again. Then I came to realize that Jesus loves me even when I was naughty. Praise God! Now as I am older, I know that Jesus is the same, He loves me when I’m good, and He loves me when I sin. Peter assures us that “He careth for you.” (I Peter 5:7). The writer to the Hebrews assures us that, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” (Hebrews 13:5). Everything changes, but our dear Lord Jesus ever remains the same---even in eternity. (Romans 8:35-39; Psalm 103:13).
But, while we revel in this wonderful thought, that Jesus Christ will never change and that He is ever by our side---how many do you suppose are lost at sea, at their wits end, floundering and dying in utter despair because they do not have a personal relationship with the unchanging Christ. We, who know Him, MUST share Him! (Matthew 28:18-20).
You can do that by joining hands with us proclaiming the Good News of the Gospel all over the world, by praying, telling others of our service, and giving. Friends, we can carry on only as long as God’s people supply our needs. Ask God what He wants you to do. He will show you what part you should have in this ministry. Our thanks to all of you who have helped us to this point, and to all who will help us carry on, perhaps until Jesus comes again. (I Thessalonians 4:15-18).
