II Cor. 4:8, 9
Bob Richards is the only two-time gold medal winner in the pole vaulting competition in the world Olympics. He is an ordained minister called the “Vaulting Vicar.” He was a determined, competitive athlete to be sure. On one occasion he said, “I’ve never seen a great champion who quit when he was beaten. A champion refuses to go down and stay down. He bounces back to a greater victory every time.” I thought to myself, if that isn’t the story of a Christian, I have never heard one.
St. Paul puts it this way, “We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.” (II Cor. 4:8, 9). Have you just been knocked down? Well, don’t just sit there, get up and fight the good fight of faith and you will get, not a paultry old gold medal, but a crown of glory in heaven that will glitter forever!
How can you beat that!
